Google have added a new ‘social element’ to their search results with the launch of their new ‘+1’ button. The button, which will only be available in America to begin with, is very similar to the ‘Like’ system used on Facebook.
+1 will give Google users the ability to like a search result, and then friends of that person, will then be able to see that the result has been liked by their friends. The button is also scheduled to be rolled out amongst sites who host adverts through Google.
This new system should provide Google with a lot of new data regarding website popularity and result quality, and whilst they have ruled out using it to influence SEO factors for the meantime, it could well have an influence in the future.
