Apple Holds More Cash Than US Government
Startling new financial figures have shown that the creators of the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad amongst others, Apple, have more money in their bank account than the government of the United States.
Despite being in considerable economic turmoil at the moment, as is much of the world, the United States is still one of the richest countries in the world, and figures from the treasury show that they have an operating cash balance of around $73.7bn (£45.3bn) to cover the costs of maintaining a 3.7m mile land with a population that exceeds 300m.
Amazingly though on the other hand, the Steve Jobs fronted Apple, which has around 350 worldwide stores and 50,000 staff to pay, has $76.4bn (£46.4bn) and continues to make money ‘hand over fist’ whilst the United States continues to negotiate new debt limits to avoid it defaulting and losing its AAA credit rating.
With so much money at its disposal it is no surprise that speculation is rife over what Apple will do next, however, whether they decide to take over the country, or provide the 28m iPad users (one of which is US President Barack Obama) with a new gadget to help them get through the day, either way, its going to be interesting.
