Firstly, welcome to our new website. I am SO happy with it. My team have worked incredibly hard to make it clean, simple and straightforward. We have had so many websites over the years, but to celebrate our 20th year in business (yep, you read that right!) we wanted a fresh start and a clean break. We have let go of cluttered pages and complex menus, and instead focused on keeping things simple. While we were working on the new website, we started looking back over old pages, old blog posts, and even old redirects we still had in place. And honestly, it made me feel reallllllly old. To give you some context, when we started dijitul from our Mansfield town centre office back in 2006, we built websites purely for desktop computers. The idea of designing a website to work properly on a mobile phone simply did not exist.
That got us thinking though. Are we one of the oldest website designers in Mansfield?
Mansfield is a former mining town in Nottinghamshire that has battled with a bad reputation for a while, when in reality it has a lot going for it. Good schools, a great college, and SO many brilliant local businesses. Mansfield is also home to several excellent website designers, so we decided to do a bit of digging to see whether we could lay claim to the title of the oldest business offering web design in Mansfield.

Below are some of the longest standing website designers in Mansfield, ranked with the oldest at the bottom. I know it is a bit unusual for a web design company to publish a blog post about its closest local competitors, but honestly, we have all been doing this for a long time and we are all still here. In over 20 years, I have never fallen out with any of these businesses. We all do what we do, and we do it well. So here they are, Mansfield’s oldest and best website design companies.
5) SF.Media – Founded 2011
My friends over at SF Media come in at number five. Pete and Jamie founded SF in 2011 and operate as a full service agency, much like ourselves. I have never heard a bad word said about these guys, and we were even neighbours at Ransom Wood for a while. They primarily build websites using WordPress but also promote their own in-house CMS, and they are approved Google Partners.

4) JKE Web Design – Founded 2009
In at number four is JKE Web Design. I have never had the pleasure of meeting the team behind JKE (always up for a coffee though, chaps and chapettes), but I know they have helped a huge number of Mansfield businesses get online. They focus mainly on web design, logo design and local SEO. Whatever they do, they clearly do it well, as I regularly see their name in the footer of local company websites. JKE appear to use their own framework or custom coded solutions for their websites.

3) Midas Creative – Founded 2008
Coming in at number three are the Midas team. I think we have traded customers a few times over the years, but I genuinely cannot fault their work or their branding. The team come from a publishing background and have channelled that experience into helping promote local businesses online. Like many website designers in Mansfield, they primarily use WordPress as their CMS of choice.

2) DIJITUL – Founded in 2006
Coming in at number two is us. dijitul originally formed in 2006 under the name Maxxd Marketing Solutions, before rebranding to DIJITUL in 2008 during the global recession. Over the last 20 years, we have built websites from several different Mansfield offices. I think we have had six, maybe seven offices in total, and this version of our website must be at least the tenth. Probably more. Here is hoping we can last another 20 years!

So that is that. We are not the oldest web design company in Mansfield. We came close, but not quite. That said, I am more than happy to lose out to the business that came in at number one, as it is owned by a good friend of mine who, along with his brilliant team, has been helping businesses in Mansfield and beyond for over 23 years.

1) Full Phat Design – Founded 2003
Martin founded Full Phat straight out of university. I remember emailing him when we first started a few years later to do two things. First, to pay him to design some business cards for me. Second, to ask how much we should actually be charging for websites, because we genuinely had no idea. Full Phat specialise in design, and they are probably the strongest graphic design company in the area. Over the years they have created hundreds of beautiful websites. We have worked with Full Phat on several projects, and as they do not offer marketing services, they often pass SEO clients over to us once a new website has been completed.

Obviously as a business, I want us to grow, succeed and do well – but I learnt a long time ago that your competitors are not your enemies, and in fact we all need each other as we all do what we do but we all do it differently. Some of us focus on certain services, some of us specialise in others – but there is enough work out there for us all, and the fact that every business in this list has operated in the same area, in the same space for practically 20 years just proves that.
