I won an award

So, I have recently joined the Rotary Club in Mansfield after being invited to a few meetings and volunteering to do a few santa “shifts” over Christmas 2025. I was super impressed with how much good they do for the local area, and I want the local area to be better – so thought they were the right organisation for me to join.

Anyway, last night was my first meeting as a member, and at the halfway point I was stunned to be awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship, which is actually the highest award you can receive as a Rotarian! I was genuinly lost for words.

Me being handed the award by Rotary President Geoff Milnes

This is a quote from the press release;

In presenting the PHF, President Geoff Milnes explained that the Paul Harris Fellowship is one of Rotary’s highest recognitions, established by Rotary International in 1957 and named after Rotary founder Paul Harris. It is awarded through The Rotary Foundation to individuals – Rotarians and non-Rotarians – who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service and Rotary ideals. He went on to say that Mansfield Rotary was delighted to make the award, suggested by Adrian Brewer, acknowledging that Olly Mooney’s involvement with ROTB began as a result of Adrian Brewers first visit to Mansfield Rotary 13 years ago when the local connection to Dijitul was made.

Mansfield Rotary said the award highlights the powerful impact that skilled volunteers can have, not only locally but across the world, through sustained service and support.

For context, we have been supporting Adrian at ROTB (The Rotary Water Barrel Project) for about 13 years, providing him with free websites, hosting and helping him with his charitable ventures. He’s an amazing individual and I believe that he deserves all the support we can give him as the work he does changes actual lives, and makes a real, genuine difference to the world.

Rtn. Adrian Brewer noted that Olly’s behind-the-scenes contribution has played an important part in promoting ROTB’s work, supporting an estimated 20,000 families worldwide who no longer need to carry water over long distances—bringing significant health and social benefits.

We may have helped but Adrian is the real hero here. That said, thank you so much for the nomination and the subsequent award, its honestly something I will treasure forever. 🙂
