📝 Band by band

What you get at each price

Starter brochure site: £299 to £999

A professionally built WordPress site on a proven layout, with your branding, up to around five pages, a contact form, Google Maps, mobile-first design and the basic SEO set up correctly. You supply the words and photos, we make them work. This is the right buy for a new trade, a sole trader or anyone replacing a site that is embarrassing them. It is also what we mean by websites from £299.

Custom brochure site: £1,500 to £3,000

Design starts from a blank page rather than a layout. Expect a discovery call, a custom homepage and inner page design, help writing or editing your copy, a proper photo plan, service pages that are structured to rank, and training so you can edit it yourself. Most established Nottinghamshire businesses with a handful of services sit here.

Bespoke business site: £3,000 to £8,000

For firms where the website is the main way work arrives. Adds professional copywriting, location pages for each town you serve, integrations with your CRM or booking system, quoting tools, case studies, and a conversion-focused structure. This is the band where the difference between a good and a bad supplier is largest, because the value is in the thinking, not the pixels.

Online shop: £2,500 to £10,000+

Product data, categories, payment gateways, shipping rules, VAT handling, stock and accounts integration, and the checkout testing that stops abandoned baskets. A 50-product WooCommerce or Shopify shop sits at the low end; a 3,000-product trade catalogue with account pricing sits well above it. We build on Shopify, WooCommerce and OpenCart and will tell you which fits.

Bespoke web software: £8,000 upwards

Customer portals, booking and rota systems, quoting engines, internal tools. Scoped and priced as a project with staged payments. If a supplier quotes this kind of work without a written specification, be cautious.

🤔 Why pay more

What the extra money actually buys

Two quotes for “a ten-page website” can be £800 apart and both be fair. The difference is nearly always in these things.

  • Discovery. Someone asks what the site is for, who the customer is and what a good enquiry looks like before designing anything.
  • Copywriting. Words written for your customers and for search, rather than pasted from your old brochure.
  • Custom design. A layout built around your services, not a theme with the colours changed.
  • SEO structure. Page hierarchy, headings, internal links, schema and speed handled at build time, not bolted on later.
  • Integrations. Booking, quoting, CRM, accounts, reviews. Each one is work, and each one is where cheap sites quietly fail.
  • Testing. On real phones, on slow connections, with real form submissions.
  • Training and handover. You can edit the site, and you own the domain, the hosting account and the files.
  • Aftercare. Who fixes it on a Saturday. This is the one people forget to price and regret most.

Who is worth paying more for

Not the biggest name. For a Nottinghamshire small business the supplier worth a premium is the one who:

  1. Has been trading long enough that you can find sites they built five years ago, still live and still looked after.
  2. Hosts and supports websites in-house, so the person who built it is the person who fixes it.
  3. Gives you a fixed, itemised quote in writing before work starts.
  4. Registers the domain in your name and hands over full access at launch.
  5. Has reviews you can check and an office you could visit.
  6. Tells you when you do not need something. A supplier who talks you down from a £5,000 quote to a £1,500 one has just shown you how they will behave for the next five years.

If that reads like a description of dijitul, that is deliberate, but it is also a fair checklist for anyone. Our five checks before you sign guide goes deeper.

⚠️ Watch for

Hidden costs that catch Nottinghamshire businesses out

  • “Free” website builders. Free until you want your own domain, no adverts, a contact form and more than one page. Then £15 to £40 a month forever, and you cannot take the site with you.
  • Premium theme and plugin licences. Perfectly normal, but they renew annually. Ask what is on the list and who pays from year two.
  • Stock photography. Budget £50 to £300 if you have no photos, or half a day with a local photographer, which is usually the better spend.
  • Hosting after year one. The classic: a year bundled free, then £40 a month.
  • SEO retainers with a twelve-month lock-in. Ours is monthly rolling from £99 + VAT. If someone needs a contract to keep you, ask why.
  • The domain in someone else’s name. Not a cost until you try to leave, at which point it is the biggest one.

❓ FAQs

Website cost questions

How much does a new business website cost in Nottinghamshire?

In 2026, a starter brochure website costs from £299 + VAT, a custom brochure site £1,500 to £3,000, a bespoke business site £3,000 to £8,000, and an online shop £2,500 to £10,000 or more depending on products and integrations. Ongoing costs are hosting from £365 + VAT a year and, optionally, local SEO from £99 + VAT a month. dijitul gives a fixed quote before any work starts.

Why is one quote £500 and another £5,000 for what sounds like the same website?

Because they are not the same website. The cheaper quote is usually a template with your logo and text dropped in; the dearer one includes discovery, custom design, copywriting, SEO structure, integrations, testing and aftercare. Neither is wrong, but you should know which you are buying. Ask each supplier for an itemised list of what is included.

Who is worth paying more for?

A supplier who will still be there in three years, hosts and supports the site in-house, gives you a fixed written quote, registers the domain in your name, can show live sites that are still standing, and has reviews you can check. Paying more for a bigger design agency name rarely pays back for a Nottinghamshire small business; paying more for reliability and aftercare usually does.

Does the website price include hosting?

At dijitul, no, and we think that is the honest way to do it: the build is a one-off fixed price, and managed UK hosting and support is £365 + VAT a year (about £1 a day). Some suppliers bundle a year of hosting into the build, then charge considerably more from year two. Always ask what hosting costs after the first year.

Do I have to pay everything up front?

No. We agree the payment schedule in writing before work starts. A deposit to book the project with the balance on launch is usual for smaller sites, and staged payments for larger builds.

Is a cheap website a false economy?

Not automatically. A £299 site that loads fast, works on a phone and has your phone number at the top will beat a £5,000 site that nobody can find. It becomes a false economy when it is built on a platform you do not control, cannot be updated, or has no one behind it when it breaks.

In a world full of digital agencies offering similar services, the difference with Dijitul is the human side of the partnership. The service never feels sterile or transactional. It feels personal.
